As reported by Reuters, Huawei’s Legal Director said this step was an effort to increase transparency. As is known, Huawei is still affected by the trade war between China and the United States.
Even so, Huawei will still gain profit, aka financial benefits of around USD 1.3 billion (Rp.18.7 trillion). This financial gain will come from patent licenses for 2019-2021, according to Huawei’s Head of Intellectual Property (IP), Jason Ding.
For every cellphone that uses Huawei’s 5G technology that can work, Huawei will receive USD 2.5 (IDR 36 thousand) in royalties. Huawei is currently at the forefront of the 5G patent race against its competitors. They are Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson, and the chip manufacturer Qualcomm. Huawei can also continue to grow positively in 2020 in terms of revenue and net profit.
Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei said in February 2021 that Huawei has continued to gain consumer confidence over the years. Even in conditions of a trade war with America, loyal Huawei consumers contributed 54.4% of Huawei’s revenue in 2019.
At the end of March 2021, Huawei plans to reveal the full results of its business performance. Their projections are that by the end of 2020, Huawei will hold 100 thousand active patents.
Meanwhile, total investment for Huawei’s R&D division has so far reached 131.7 billion Yuan (IDR 291.7 trillion). What an unbelievable amount of money, in order to make breakthroughs in their technological innovations for the future.
