OnePlus has officially confirmed that it will launch the OnePlus 9 series on 23 March. The launch event will be broadcast live via the company’s official YouTube channel. Not only that, but the Chinese smartphone maker has also officially announced its cooperation with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad.
In its press release, OnePlus is still silent about the models in the OnePlus 9 series, which are expected to be the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and OnePlus 9R, according to previous leaks. Instead, the brand has confirmed the camera specifications of the device.
OnePlus also said it had signed a three-year partnership with Hasselblad to jointly develop camera systems for future OnePlus flagship devices. To do so, the company will invest $ 150 million over the next three years in four R&D labs around the lab, including two imaging labs based in the United States and Japan.
The OnePlus 9 series and upcoming high-end phones from OEMs will ship with ‘Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad’, a new color solution co-developed by OnePlus and Hasselblad. The brand’s flagship smartphone will also come with a ‘Hasselblad Pro Mode’ and have support for the 12-bit RAW format and options to adjust ISO, focus, exposure time, white balance, and more.
There are several camera specifications from the OnePlus 9 series confirmed by the company itself, they include:
- Custom Sony IMX789 Sensor
- Panoramic Camera with FOV 140 ° (Field of View)
- Free-Form Lens for Minimal Distortion in Ultra-Wide Images
- T-Lens Technology for Faster Focus on the Front Camera
- Support for 12-bit RAW
- Enhanced HDR Video Recording
- Video Recording at 4K 120FPS and 8K 30FPS
Based on the above parameters, it can be clearly concluded that there is no new hardware, but rather the first device for an OnePlus smartphone. We’ll see if the camera system from the OnePlus 9 series will perform as well as the company claims or not.
